Soy-based formulas

These formulas are recommended for infants that are allergic to cow’s milk but are not allergic to soy, for infants with Galactosemia and for babies with severe lactose intolerance. It is important to know that one-third of infants that have an allergy to cow’s milk protein are also allergic to soy protein and in these cases, this formula isn’t suitable. This formula is also a good option for vegan families who want to avoid dairy products.

When comparing formulas based on cow’s milk to soy-based formulas, the soy protein is less similar to breast milk in its properties. They also differ from other formulas in the sugars they contain - the lactose is substituted with sucrose. This is helpful in cases when there is a lactose intolerance, a common situation after bowel diseases that damage the intestinal mucosa and in children that have a lactase deficiency. For this reason, if you plan to use only soy-based formulas, consult with your physician.
