Failure to thrive - FTT

Is your child not gaining weight as expected?

Sometimes it doesn’t mean a thing, your child might be developing properly, and his body weight is just lower than others at the same age. This phenomenon is more common among families in which the parents or the siblings are relatively short. Sometimes the reason could be that a child is born preterm and didn’t catch up with his friends. But sometimes low body weight could imply that your child is not fully reaching his growth potential. There could be many reasons for this gap, but most of them can be divided into a few groups:

  • Not receiving enough energy from the food he eats

  • Losing energy while fighting off an infection

  • Not being able to absorb food
